When it comes to laying a loved one to rest, it can feel overwhelming to work through the list of things that need to be organised. Which includes organising the headstone. Here at R. French Stonemasonry Ltd we aim to make this process as easy and straightforward as possible for you.
Hand-carved headstones and memorials using natural stone is a lasting way to honour a loved one’s memory. Designed to your wishes, each unique piece of art is a fitting tribute to mark their final resting place. From start to finish, the process will be customised to your specification from a range of stone including sandstone/limestone/slate.
We will work with you to create a unique memorial that appropriately encapsulates your dear one’s legacy while sticking to your intended budget.
Cemeteries and churchyards do have some restrictions (such as size) this is important to remember when designing memorials for cemeteries or churchyards. Simply tell us what you have in mind and we’ll offer our services to make this process as easy as possible. We will take care of everything from dealing with the council/getting permission/creating and installing the headstone.

We advise that headstones are not erected until around 6 months after the burial to allow for the ground to settle and avoid any movement when the headstone is in place.
- Council fees. — there will be some fees involved in getting permission to erect the headstone I.e.. the digging/laying of foundation/cemetery permission. This usually costs between £100 and £250.
- Lead times for most of our headstones are around 10 12 weeks from first order. (Depending on the type of stone.)
- Some more bespoke/intricate headstones including some types of stone such as Caithness sandstone/Portland limestone and Welsh slate can be up to 18–19 weeks from first order.
- All orders require a 50% deposit.
